A Winter Solstice Ritual: Release, Cleanse & Set Intentions for 2026 By Donna Marie Holistic & Spiritual Wellbeing
Hello Lovelies
The Winter Solstice marks the darkest day of the year and the gentle return of the light. It is a sacred pause an invitation to rest, reflect, and realign before we step forward once more. Spiritually, this time carries powerful energy for release, cleansing, and intention-setting, making it the perfect moment to prepare for the year ahead.
This simple ritual can be done at home, in quiet reflection, allowing you to consciously let go of what no longer serves you and set focused intentions for 2026.
Step 1: Create a Sacred Space
Begin by creating a calm, intentional space. You may wish to:
- Light a candle to represent returning light
- Use incense, sage, palo santo, or a favourite essential oil
- Sit comfortably with a blanket, journal, or crystal
Take a few slow breaths, allowing your body to soften and your mind to settle.
Step 2: Release What No Longer Serves You
Winter is a time of surrender and rest. Gently reflect on the year that has passed and ask yourself:
- What beliefs, habits, emotions, or situations am I ready to release?
- What feels heavy, outdated, or misaligned within me?
Write these down without judgement. When you feel ready, speak the words softly or silently:
“I release with love anything that no longer serves my highest good.”
If it feels right, you may safely tear up the paper or place it aside as a symbolic act of release.
Step 3: Cleanse Your Energy
Now bring your awareness inward. Imagine a soft, cleansing light surrounding you — washing through your body, your energy field, and your heart space. With each breath out, allow any remaining heaviness to dissolve.
You may wish to say:
“I cleanse and clear my energy with compassion, ease, and grace.”
Stay here for a few moments, simply breathing and receiving.
Step 4: Set Focused Intentions for 2026
As the light begins to return, this is the perfect time to plant seeds for the year ahead. Rather than setting pressure-filled goals, focus on how you wish to feel and who you are becoming.
Ask yourself:
- How do I want to feel in 2026?
- What qualities do I want to embody?
- What energy do I wish to invite into my life?
Write your intentions in the present tense, as if they are already unfolding. For example:
- I feel confident and aligned in my choices.
- I trust myself and my path.
- I move through life with calm, clarity, and purpose.
Hold your intentions close to your heart and allow them to anchor gently within you.
Step 5: Close the Ritual
To close, offer gratitude — to yourself, to the year behind you, and to the light ahead. Safely Snuff out your candle, knowing that even in darkness, transformation is always taking place beneath the surface.
A Gentle Reminder
Winter teaches us that rest is not stagnation — it is preparation. By releasing, cleansing, and setting clear intentions at the Winter Solstice, you align yourself with the natural rhythm of renewal and growth.
May this ritual support you in stepping into 2026 feeling lighter, clearer, and deeply connected to yourself
